(f^^) His Comments (@_<) ---------------- December 2, 1998Thanksgiving and Christmas this year
Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Big events in every months give us happy time in winter. The forth Thursday in November seems to be the biggest day of population movement. The university takes holidays from the day before to the weekend. Many American except vegetarian have turkey with cranberry source, mashed potato, and pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving dinner. Such fixed dinner menu reminds me Japanese new year¹s dishes. But the difference is that American takes 4500 calories in one day as average. This year, a couple from Spain and New Zealand kindly invited my family to their Thanksgiving dinner. However, though there were more than ten adults, more than a half of 10Kg-turkey was left after the party, and I heard they spent eating the rest all over the weekend. This week seems to be the only holidays for Americans to take continuous four days break, every store holds after Thanksgiving sale widely. Many ads in newspapers announce the shops will open at 7 am(!), 6 am (!!) or more earlier(!!!).
Turn to the next week on December the first. This day sounds the lighting day for Christmas trees. There is one house in my neighborhood which is brightly decorated all the year around, celebrating Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, and so on. When we visited the house in trick-or-treat, the owner said that all displays are their Grandma¹s hobby. I really like them and enjoy to see them everytime. In this Christmas season, displays are greater than the last years, and they were exactly begun on December the first. You can not help feeling funny when you find ³the casino² in a residential area. According to my experience, the most showy Christmas displays in St. Louis city last year was of Union Station, Ritz Hotel or of Anheuser-Busch brewery. However, I would like to give my best award to the house this year without comparing with others.
